New Welcome to English, by Longman 2000
Browsed: 3A
- cd-rom for 3A, containing all unit/s chapters in the book
- clicking on a unit on the TOC page will bring on the PDF of the corresponding print version
- eFeatures:
- everything recorded; clicking on 'listen' button will start recording playback.
- on exercise pages, clicking on 'answer key' button will show correct answers;
- standard PDF reader functions
- pdf pages not interactive
- My comments (for classroom teaching):
- convenient for playing recording of a section;
- convenient for showing Answer Key when SS have attempted an exercise.
- page not interactive; no additional interactive tasks for classroom teaching
Longman Target English: Student CDrom
Browsed: Student CDROM 3 (?)
- the opening screen shows: (a) More about Passage; (b) Maze Craze, and (c) Vocabulary Checklist
- Clicking on More about Passage will bring on the Index of reading passages (1-12); clicking on a passage/unit number will open the passage of that unit (not PDF); click on any word in the passage, the whole sentence will be highlighted, and the recorded readaloud of that sentence will play.
- Clicking on Maze Craze will bring up a list of games for each chapter: grammar, vocabulary, About HK. Starting any one these will show a series of MC questions (grammar, vocabulary; general knowledge about HK). A scoring system is added to add fun to the exercise.
- Vocabulary list: clicking on this will bring on the index of chapters. Clicking on a chapter will show a word list summary of that particular chapter.
My comments
- The reading section only provides the listening function (to sentence clicked)
- Maze Craze consists of traditional exercises, livened up with a scoring system. OK for revision.
- Vocabulary list does not do anything more than the print book. \
- Only the Maze Craze has some use; and even so for revision only.
